It should come as no surprise that the person on the phone was also unable to help me. I wish I recorded the conversation because she was dumb as a box of rocks and tried to get away with it.

So basically what I learned is that timewarner's digital phone service sucks ass. It's about what you'd get from a regular phone service except it's digital (with the features listed above). The only real difference that I can see is that you get unlimited local and long distance calling. I'm all for saving money on my phone service, but if i'm going to switch to IP phones, I want to see some bells and whistles- again, the kind of features that grandcentral.com offers.

Apple TV update...

My Apple TV arrived today... true to Apple reputation, it installed easily... it took all of 5 minutes block to block to get it connected and operating properly. It's taking some time to synch with my PC but I have a lot of data to send over.

Apple TV...

Apple TV finally started shipping yesterday- I already have one pre-ordered. I suggest you get yours ASAP... well, just because... do it.

I have two small children and after losing DVDs to excessive use and abuse, we started ripping the DVDs to a video ipod. This gives us a few key benefits-

1. We have all our movies with us all the time when traveling. (Living in NYC, we are out of town most weekends).

2. We watch these movies on the ipod itself, in the car using the installed A/V inputs on the factory DVD player or on our home TV (with optional video cables- we got ours from belkin) you can get them here for less than $20.

All in all, it's a great system. In addition to ripping DVDs (and thus losing chapter information), you can purchase movies directly from iTunes which I guess is what Apple was aiming for in the first place. Movies seem to be about $13 vs. $20 for a DVD. I'd call that a significant savings.
